Koshi victims put off agitation for 10 days
Itahari, February 28:
An emergency meeting of the Koshi Flood Victims’ Struggle Committee today decided to postpone the ongoing agitation for 10 days.
However, some disgruntled victims protested the decision to put off the agitation launched 11 days ago. The committee said it postponed the agitation as the Home Ministry had formed a panel to study the 13-point demand of the flood victims and seek long-term solution to their problem.
Likewise, the committee said the Sunsari CDO, who was indifferent to their demands, had been transferred. The CDO’s transfer was one of their major demands. “In this backdrop, we decided to put off the agitation for 10 days,” the committee said.
The disgruntled victims, however, accused the committee of not seeking consensus before taking the decision. They also staged demonstrated at Jamuwa Nahar Chowk. “The decision to postpone the agitation is a conspiracy. We will continue the agitation,” said Ayup Miyan. He also accused the committee members of deceiving the victims by taking money.
Meanwhile, the indefinite transport strike called by the transporters in the eastern region was also called off after the flood victims postponed their strike.
