Land-grab slur on Siraha Maoists

Siraha, April 7:

Maoist cadres have seized three bighas of land worth Rs 30 lakh belonging to a civilian of Karjanha-2 in Siraha. The Maoists seized land of Raju Prasad Mahato located at wards no. 1, 2 and 4 of Kalabanzar VDC and hoisted their party flag on the land on April 2.

Some 20 Maoists led by Ram Kumar Paswan and Hari Paswan built huts and distributed the land to Maoists, Mahato said.

“I was funding the education of my four children and running the household with income earned from the land. I am finding it difficult to manage money for the treatment of my aged mother after Maoists seized the land.”

“The Maoists are threatening to kill me, and I and my entire family are living in Janakpur.”

Earlier also, Maoists had grabbed Mahato’s land on February 20. However, they returned it after he approached district level Maoist leaders repeatedly.

“I sent a letter to Maoist chairperson Prachanda urging him to instruct his cadres to return the land, but my problem has not been addressed.”

The Maoists have also grabbed 10 katthas of land belonging to Parmeshwor Paswan of Gautari. “Though Maoists say that they want to see the welfare of Dalits, they have seized my land,” Paswan rued.

However, Maoist district secretary Abinash denied the involvement of Maoists in the incidents of seizure of land.
