Landslide blocks Tamor River in Taplejung

BHOJPUR/PHIDIM: A massive landslide has blocked Tamor River at Malbase Mitlung in Sawadin-1 of Taplejung district on Sunday.

According to the Eastern Regional Police Office, Biratnagar, Mitlung Bazaar and Handung of Phurumba VDC and Siwa Bazaar were badly affected due to the blockage of the river.

Police said that the houses of Jeevan Nunge and Dil Bahadur Nunge of Phurumba-9 and their 60 ropanis of cultivated land were inundated after the landslide blocked the river.

Personnel from the Nepal Army and Nepal Police have been deployed at the incident site.

Locals have been asked to stay alert, police said.

Meanwhile, the blockage has also put various human settlements in Taplejung, Panchthar, Terhathum and Dhankuta districts on the banks of the River downstream.

As in Taplejung, locals of the likely-to-be-affected areas in Panchthar district have been asked via local FM stations to stay alert, informed Chief District Officer Kiran Thapa.
