Landslide leaves 9 families homeless

Taplejung, July 5:

A massive landslide on Monday night left nine families of the northern Lelep VDC in Taplejung district homeless. Two persons were critically injured in the incident.

The entry point of Lelep from Ikhabu VDC has been blocked following the landslide. It is said that other houses, too, are at risk.

According to local Mingma Sherpa, a son of Mann Prasad Limbu and one Suk Maya Limbu were injured and are undergoing treatment at a local health centre. Houses of Jay Man Limbu and Til Bahadur Limbu were swept away by the landslide, while seven other houses were affected and are on the verge of collapse.

The victims are taking shelter in the Mahendra Secondary School, Lelep, a teacher of the school, Yogendra Shah, said.

The District Police Office said the extent of the damage caused by the landslide is yet to be known.
