Landslide pushes moving bus into river, killing at least 2

KATHMANDU: A landslide hit a moving passenger bus along the Butwal-Palpa road section of Siddhartha Highway in Palpa, forcing the vehicle to fall into the Tinau River.

Police recovered two bodies from the River, near Siddhababa Temple of Palpa district.

Butwal Area Police Post said at least eight persons are missing in the incident, reported the Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS).

The bus (Lu 1 Kha 5771), en route to Butwal from Palpa, was hit by the landslip at around 2 pm today.

Total 26 persons were travelling on the bus, while more than a dozen passengers managed to take off the vehicle while it stopped for a while, the RSS quoted police as saying.

Security personnel have expedited search and rescue operations.
