Landslides, floods displace seven families

Bhimduttanagar, July 2

As many as seven families have been displaced following landslides and flash floods triggered by two days of torrential rain in Bhimduttanagar.

Two persons died in Darchula after they were buried in mudslide while another sustained injuries, informed Acting Chief District Officer of Darchula, Bishwomitra Kuinkel.

Police record shows that seven families of various villages have been displaced as of yet, but the actual number may be higher, according to Kuinkel. “We have sent relief materials for the displaced,” he said.

Meanwhile, the removal of landslide debris that has blocked the Baitadi-Darchula road stretch is under way since Thursday. The police office in Jailjibi area of Darchula also suffered partial damage due to the landslide. The police officers and equipment at the station have been transferred to a safer location, as per District Police Office, Darchula.

Shankerpur, Gywani, Bhagwati, Dattu, Dandakot, Sarmoli, Kharkada, Lali, Rithachaupata, Bohari Gaun and Gokuleshwor, among other VDCs of Darcghula district are prone to landslides, according to the local administration.
