Landslides may hit 300 houses

Dhading, August 30 :

Three hundred households are under threat of landslides in Satya Devi VDC, a remote place in the north of the district, 33 kms away from the district headquarters Dhadingbesi.

Fearing that their houses would be swept away by landslide, locals pack their bags and go to safer places to spend the night. Landslides have already wrecked havoc in Nangsari VDC in Ward No 6, Yomrang in Ward No 5, Maur in Ward No 4, Archet in Ward No 1, and Satyadevi VDC.

The worst hit is the Yomrang VDC where an entire hill is on the verge of crumbling, locals said.

Thirty-eight persons had been killed in the village in a landslide in 1999.

Landslides are common during monsoons since then and problems have multiplied by the year, villagers said.

The District Administration Office and Nepal Red Cross have sent a team to inspect the areas.
