Last rites of five crash victims performed at Aryaghat

KATHMANDU: Last rites of five of the Taplejung helicopter crash victims were performed at Pashupati Aryaghat today in line with the deceased's religion and culture.

Deputy Director General of Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal, Birendra Prasad Shrestha, Under-Secretary at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Yubaraj Dahal, CAAN engineer Dhruba Das Bhochhibhaya, Captain Pravakar KC, and Arjun Kumar Ghimire, security guard of Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Rabindra Adhikari, who were also killed in the crash have been cremated.

Brother of late Under-Secretary Dahal, Devraj Dahal, lit Dahal's funeral pyre. Chief Secretary Lokdarshan Regmi, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli's press advisor Kundan Aryal, high ranking government officials, employees of the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal, officials of Nepal Army and general public, among others visited Pashupati to pay tribute to the crash victims.

Meanwhile, Minister Adhikari's body has been transported to his home district Kaski and his funeral procession has begun. His body will be taken through Nayabazaar, Mahendrapul, Ranipauwa, Hospital Chok before being cremated at Ramghat with state honours.

Likewise, the last rites of Managing Director of Yeti Airlines and Tara Air, Aang Tshiring Sherpa would be performed on Sunday as per Buddhist religious tradition, said the family.
