Late Singer Arun Thapamagar remembered

KATHMANDU: The 19th memorial day of singer Arun Thapamagar was observed by organizing a function here in Kathmandu on Saturday.

Students from the Magar Community have been observing the day at their own initiative since 2061 B.S.

At the function, the Arun Memorial Music Award 2074 was also distributed along with a cash prize of Rs. 10,000. The award was presented by Yam Bahadur Budhamagar,  Former President of Nepal Magar Association, to singer Dhan Kumari Thapamagar.

Born on Magh 11, 2009 B.S. in Kolkata, India, singer Arun Thapamagar came to light after his song titled 'jati maya laye pani…' was aired via Radio Nepal in 2028 B.S. Since then, he sang many songs that gained nationwide popularity including 'Rituharu ma timi…', and 'Sanjha ko jun sangai…'.

He passed away at an early age of 47 years on Saun 5, 2056 B.S.
