Lawmakers blame delayed road construction for rise in accidents

KATHMANDU:  Lawmakers from different political parties have drawn the attention of the government and parliament over an increasing number of road accidents.

Arguing that it was delayed construction of roads which causes accidents in the far west hilly districts, lawmakers blamed government bodies and construction companies for the delay in completing road construction projects.

Moreover, speaking at the special hour of the House of Representatives meeting today, lawmakers referred to Darchula jeep accident that caused 11 fatalities and demanded action against the negligent construction company.

"Local people have been bearing the brunt of the recklessness of contractor," said Ganesh Singh Dhagunna, adding that government must provide appropriate compensation to the victim families.
