Lawyers’ meet calls for end to impunity
Kathmandu, March 4:
Issuing a 10-point Kathmandu Declaration, the two-day conference of democratic lawyers’ concluded today.
The conference called the government and the parties concerned to ensure independence of the judiciary and end to impunity.
The lawyers also called the CA to promulgate the Constitution within the stipulated time in accordance with the interim constitution. The declaration signed by advocate Upendra Keshari Neupane said there was an urgent need to guarantee democracy, human rights, multi-party system, free press, federal governance, and democratic norms and values in the new constitution.
“This conference strongly objects the politicising of the judiciary, time and again,” it added. The conference also expressed serious concern about deteriorating security situation in the country. It also demanded equal representation of women, Dalits, janajatis, and backward communities in all state organs.
