Limbuwan bandh hits life hard

Life in the east has been affected due to the bandh called by Federal Limbuwan Party Nepal in the nine districts east of the Arun River seeking that the region be declared Limbuwan State. The two-day bandh was imposed from today.

Market places, educational institutions, factories and industries in Dharan, Itahari, Biratnagar, Inaruwa, Damak, Birtamod, Dhankuta, Myanglung, Ilam Phidim among other places remained shut and vehicular movement was disrupted.

The Limbuwan party, which has been demanding districts like Jhapa, Morang, Sunsari, Ilam,Panchthar, Taplejung, Dhankuta, Sankhuwasabha and Terhathum, has been up in arms ever since the four major parties unanimously came up with a federal model proposing Province 1 by incorporating these districts that lie across the Arun River in the west.

Regarding the seriousness of the cause, FLPN chairperson Kumar Lingden warned the major leaders against downplaying the ongoing agitation and threatened to bring the region to a standstill to get their demand fulfilled.

“We have started a peaceful agitation for our cause, but if compelled, we won’t flinch to intensify the agitation, imposing an embargo and the likes,” said Lingden, vowing to do everything for their cause.

Meanwhile, commoners have rued the crippling impact of continuous strike for long on daily life.

“As bandhs are being enforced one after another, we’re forced to shut our businesses for days, which has furthered caused huge loss running into millions of rupees every day,” said a local businessman of Dharan Nabin Rajbhandari, adding that strikes have choked the supply of basic necessities, especially to hilly areas.
