Liquor banned in Bajura during elections

The District Administration Office, Bajura, has banned the sale and consumption of liquor until the conclusion of the second phase of civic polls in the district.

Issuing a notice after a multi-party meeting held at the District Administration Office today, Chief District Officer Debendra Lamichhane said that the production, sale and consumption of alcohol was completely banned in the district from June 15 until further notice.

He said that every citizen had the responsibility of holding the elections in a peaceful manner. Deputy Superintendent of Police Dal Bahadur Bogati at the district police office said that some untoward incidents had been taking place in the district due to liquor consumption, almost on a daily basis. He added that the ban had been imposed to deter any violence due to liquor consumption, during polls.

Police said there had been some cases in Manakot, Pandusain and Rugin in recent times, in which cadres of political parties had turned violent after consuming liquor and breached the election code of conduct, police said. Meanwhile, police had seized around 10,000 litres of liquor from different local markets in the area between Bahrabisa and Rugin Kawadi of the district.
