Literacy drive volunteers peeved

DADELDHURA: Volunteers and supervisors working for the Literacy Campaign have complained that they were yet to receive salary increment. The campaign was launched by the government in mid-January.

The government had hiked the monthly salary of the volunteers and supervisors by Rs 1,000, who earlier used to get Rs 1,000 and Rs 1,500, respectively.

Though the first-phase literacy campaign has concluded, 213 volunteers and 24 supervisors are yet to receive their increment.

"We have lodged our complaints at the District Development Committee, the Municipal Office and the District Education Office, but when we visit the offices we are told that the government is yet to release funds," Ram Pariyar, a supervisor from Amargadhi said.

Local Development Officer Bishnu Prasad Dhakal said the Informal Education Centre was yet to release the funds. "We have demanded Rs 17 lakhs to pay to the volunteers and supervisors in the district," he said.
