Local bodies staffers on warpath

BIRATNAGAR: Staffers at the local bodies in Morang district have warned of decisive stir if authorities failed to fulfill their five-point charter of demands at the earliest.

The staffers of 65 VDCs, a sub-metropolis and District Development Committee (DDC) have been protesting since June 29.

Their main demands include professional security, permanent appointment and promotion of the staffers of local bodies. They also demanded for an early implementation of the agreement reached with the Ministry for Local Development in November, last year.

“We had submitted our demands to the chiefs of respective offices during the first phase of our protests on June 29,” said Laxmi Prasad Dhimal, unit committee chairman of Local Bodies Staffers Association at Morang DDC. “But there had been no hearing towards our rightful demands, which is compelling us to agitate.”
