Local body employees on stir from today
BIRATNAGAR: Local body employees in Morang district are all set to go on a strike beginning tomorrow.
According to Mahendra Khadka, central deputy chairman of the staffers’ agitation committee, they were compelled to take the harsh decision since the government had been reticent towards their demands.
Demanding the establishment of a local service commission, the government employees have decided to shut all local body offices across the country from today.
At a press meet in Biratnagar today, the Local Level Joint Agitation Committee threatened to halt all essential services at the local levels beginning December 20 if the government did not address their demands by December 19. Their agitation has adversely affected the functioning of the local bodies for the last two weeks.
The staffers said the government had flouted the agreement signed on November 12 last year. The employees have placed black flags and locked chief officers’ chambers. The employees have claimed the agitation would be a final one, launched for the sake of their dignity and professionalism. Nearly 35,000 staffers are employed in local bodies nationwide.
