Local levels in Kavre to form DMCs

In their attempt to reduce the risks of natural disasters through effective strategy, the local governments in Kavre district are working to constitute their separate disaster management committees.

Almost all local levels in the district have formed such teams.

Disaster management committees would be formed at the ward-level, Panauti Municipality Mayor Bhim Neupane said.

“We are forming disaster management committees at the ward-level by making procedures. In the next phase, we plan to make municipality-level committee,” Neupane shared.

Likewise, Panchkhal Municipality in the district has allocated Rs 3.3 million by creating disaster management fund. The municipality has already decided to purchase a fire engine since fire is one of the major challenges in the area.

Furthermore, disaster management committees have been formed in all wards in Dhulikhel Municipality; while Namobuddha Municipality has allocated a certain amount for the cause.

Khanikhola Rural Municipality and Roshi Rural Municipality have formed their disaster management team by allocating Rs 1 million and Rs 2.4 million, respectively.

Similarly, Bhumlu and Bethanchowk rural municipalities are preparing their respective procedures to constitute the teams in the wards after making rural municipality-level teams to reduce the risk of natural disasters.
