Locals clash with police while destroying cannabis crop

HETAUNDA: Locals obstructed a team of police, who were set on to destroy the cannabis farm, attacking with stones and firing guns, forcing police to launch a counterattack in Makawanpur district.

The police team had headed for destroying the cannabis plants at Namtar, Bagune-6 in Makawanpur district on Monday.

In the counterattack, police had fired 17 rounds of bullets while the opposite side had fired 15-20 rounds of bullets, informed SP Mira Chaudhary. No harm has been detected on either side, she added.

The crowd dispersed quickly after the police had begun exchanging the gunfire, informed police.

A joint team of Narcotics Control Bureau, Kathmandu led by SP Dhiraj Pratap Singh and of Makawanpur District Police Office led by Inspector Dambar Bahadur Puri has been carrying out the campaign of destroying the cannabis farms.

The joint teams have destroyed the cannabis cultivated in total of 50 bigahas of  land, informed the DPO
