Locals rue govt delay in signing grant agreement

Hetauda, November 9

Earthquake victims of Raksirang village in Makawanpur have rued the inordinate delay by the government in signing of grant agreement with the locals.

“One-and-a-half years into the disaster, the government has yet to sign the housing grant agreement with us.

The inordinate delay has led us to suspect that the government is involved in foul play by signing contracts with fake victims and ignoring the genuine ones,” said Mansingh Ghalan of Raksirang, speaking at a press conference organised in Hetauda.

“In fact, there are a lot of irregularities as many people’s houses that are intact have been enlisted in the category of ‘completely damaged structures’, whereas the damaged houses are nowhere in the list. The state needs to investigate this and initiate the contract signing process ,” he added.

The victims of Raksirang village further warned of an agitation if their concerns were not immediately addressed.
