KATHMANDU, MAY 12

An 18-year-old woman became the youngest American woman to stand atop world's highest peak this morning, according to expedition organisers.

Lucy Westlake from Naperville scaled Mt Everest at 5:36am becoming the youngest American female to reach the summit point, Pemba Sherpa of Xtreme Climbers Treks said.

According to him, Westlake was accompanied by Mingma Chhiring Sherpa. "It's the Mingma Chhiring's 17th Everest ascent," he shared.

Lucy and Mingma both are descending back to lower camp which will probably take them around 4-5 hrs to reach Camp II, according to Sherpa.
