Biratnagar, November 17:

CPN (UML) general secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal said today there ought to be no delay in implementing the points of agreement of the summit talks between the seven parties and the Maoists.

Speaking at a press conference organised by the Morang unit of his party here, Nepal said: “The comprehensive national peace treaty (CNPT) signing scheduled for yesterday has been deferred till November 21. What will happen if it is postponed yet again?”

Smelling a rat in the delay in agreements and understandings, Nepal said: “Elections to a constituent assembly (CA) should not be delayed at any rate. The CPN (UML) will protest if the elections are delayed.”

“The Constituent Assembly election should be held by the second week of April 2007 and the nation guided towards a new path,” Nepal said, adding: “CPN (UML) wants a joint front formed for the establishment of a democratic republic in the country.”

“The forces rooting for the establishment of a democratic republic will fight to realise their goals after abolishing monarchy,” Nepal said.

Nepal said the interim government should be formed after evaluating the performance of the present government. He declined to comment on the issue of him leading the interim parliament.
