Madhes bandh takes its toll
Rajbiraj, November 10:
A pregnant woman died today in Saptari district for want of treatment due to the indefinite Madhes bandh called by Federation of Nepal Backward Class.
The police identified the deceased as Janaki Devi (20) of Deuri VDC-2. Yesterday, she was brought to Barsain for treatment after she incurred pain. However, she could not be rushed to the Sagarmatha Zonal Hospital after the bandh was announced. Attempts to take her to the hospital on a bullock cart were also of no avail, the family said.
Meanwhile, the bandh paralysed life in the district with vehicles staying off the road. All schools were shut and many shops downed shutters.
The bandh was organised to pressure the government for formation of Pichhada Barga Development Committee, said Manai Mahato, central member of the Federation. Life Siraha and Rautahat also remained crippled due to the bandh.
