Mahottari minor raped repeatedly for 11 days

JANAKPURDHAM: A youth in Mahottari district allegedly raped a minor girl repeatedly for 11 days, police said.

Basim Shesh (21) from Samsi-2 of Mahottari was arrested on charge of statutory rape of the 13-year-old local girl from June 1 to June 11 repeatedly, according to the District Police Office (DPO).

Police on Wednesday filed a rape case against the accused.

DSP Lokendra Shrestha of the DPO said the accused had enticed the minor girl for sexual intercourse, promising her of marriage.

But, he left the girl at her home on June 11, police said.

After that, guardians of the victim had filed a complaint against Shesh with police.

Shrestha said further investigation is underway.

As per the existing laws of Nepal, establishing sexual relationship with minors, notwithstanding their consent, is tantamount to statutory rape. The age of consent is 16 in Nepal.
