Maiti Nepal brings 179 trafficking victims back home

KATHMANDU: The anti-trafficking organisation Maiti Nepal informed that 179 human trafficking victims recently rescued from towns in Indo-Myanmar border of North East Indian state of Manipur have traveled back to Nepal through Kakadbhitta border on Sunday.

In this backdrop, Maiti Nepal said that the rescue operation carried out by Maiti Nepal, Indian authorities and India based non-profit organisations has now come to a logical conclusion.

As per Maiti Nepal, 147 females and 32 males were rescued from the clutches of 9 traffickers following Maiti Nepal's intervention and co-ordination with Delhi Women Commission, Manipur Police and other institutions.

"We will rehabilitate the victims with legal counseling, vocational training, employment and reconciliation with family," Maiti Nepal said, " We demand government to take stern actions against traffickers and ensure employment to all the rescued."
