‘Major parties wrangling for power’

Pokhara, January 4

Naya Shakti Party-Nepal Coordinator Baburam Bhattarai today accused the three major parties the NC, CPN-UML and CPN-Maoist Centre of wrangling for power instead of focusing on implementation of the constitution.

Inaugurating his party’s ‘Naya Shakti at every household campaign’ in Gagangauda of Lekhnath Municipality, Kaski, Bhattarai alleged that the three major parties had staged a drama of nationality, statute implementation and statute amendment to keep the country in a state of political instability and uncertainty.

“The major parties are staging the drama to loot the country. They are not concerned about statute implementation,” he charged.

Bhattarai held that the parties, which had embraced corruption and self-interest could not drive the country on the highway of prosperity and development. “It is futile to anticipate development and prosperity from parties that have become rich through people’s taxes and donors’ cash,” Bhattarai stated.

The former prime minister argued that development of the country was not possible from parties that had sunk in the quicksand of corruption. “The major parties plunder the budget allocated for development projects. This happens from the centre to the village level,” Bhattarai added.

Further, he commented that though the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority was formed to check corruption and anomalies the anti-graft body was disgraced at the moment.

Bhattarai rooted for a directly-elected presidential system. “Our party will kick-start the campaign to collect signatures nationwide after some time,” Bhattarai said.

Bhattarai asked the parties to address the demands of Madhesi and ethnic people through statute amendment.
