Man arrested with 17 kg gold in Lamjung

LAMJUNG: Police have arrested a person in possession of 17 kilogram of gold at Khudi of Marsyangdi Rural Municipality in Lamjung district along Annapurna trekking route, on Thursday.

Police identified the arrestee as Pasang Gurung (31) of Nasong Rural Municipality-9 in Manang district.

Gurung was heading to Besishahar of Lamjung district from Manang with a consignment on a pulsar motorcycle (Ba 58 Pa 4291).

Gurung fled the scene before being intercepted by the duty officers at Khudi around 11 am this morning. However, police apprehended the suspect from Khudi Bazaar area in the district, according to traffic police deputised at Khudi, Purna BK.

Deputy Superintendent of Police, Padam Bahadur Bista said the precious yellow metals were recovered, 17 gold bars, each weighing one kilogram.

He also said a mobile phone, citizenship certificate, passport, voters ID card and Rs 30,500 cash were seized from Gurung's possession.

Meanwhile, police have suspected that gold might have been smuggled from bordering area of Tibet.
