Bajura, September 11

Bajura police today arrested Dhan Bahadur Aayadi on the charge of murdering his five-year-old daughter at Dagad in Triveni Municipality, Bajura.

The incident surfaced after minor Ramita’s body was found.  According to ASI Gagan Singh Bhat of Badimalika Police Post, Ramita’s decayed body was found buried 100 metres away from her house. Locals had reported to the police after the body started stinking. Ramita’s identity was established on the basis of her clothes.

ASI Bhat said police had held Dhan Bahadur on the basis of their investigation. “Dhan Bahadur was arrested from his home.”

Bhat further said as per the information provided by locals Ramita might have been killed two weeks ago. “Neighbours told police that Dhan Bahadur had mercilessly thrashed his wife and daughter a fortnight ago in drunken stupor.

Ramita might have died after she was thrashed and the body was buried  to hide the truth,” said ASI Bhat.

Dhan Bahadur’s wife Dhana Aayadi, who fled home the same day, is staying at her parents’ home. Locals said they thought Dhana had taken the daughter with her to her parental home.

Dhana has been called by the police for interrogation. ASI Bhat said that facts would come out after interrogating Dhana.

Dhan Bahadur has been remanded to custody at District Police Office, Bajura, for further investigation.

The minor’s body has been sent to the district hospital for post-mortem.

A preliminary police investigation showed Ramita might have died after Dhan Bahadur thrashed her, police said. “The facts will come out only after the post-mortem report and statements of Dhana,” ASI Bhat said.
