Man held for defrauding foreign job aspirants

KATHMANDU: Police on Thursday said a man was arrested for swindling three people promising them of lucrative jobs in China.

According to police, Somnath Siwakoti aka Gopal (43) of Jhapa, who is currently residing at Baneshwor in the Capital, had swindled the job aspirants of Rs 1.46 million.

He was arrested from Sinamangal on Tuesday.

Siwakoti, according to police, had promised the victims to send them to China with visit visas and then to give them jobs at cloth packaging centres after converting their visas into work visas from his consultancy, Jump to Jump, located in Purano Baneshwor here.

He also sent them to China; but upon reaching there, the victims found that they were left stranded without the jobs that he had promised.

Nawaraj Saud, one of the victims, was even arrested by the Chinese Police for staying there without valid visa and was handed over to China based-Nepali Embassy following the Metropolitan Police Office's appeal after 22 days.

Later, the victims had filed a complaint against Siwakoti, forcing the Teku-based Metropolitan Crime Division to launch a manhunt.

Meanwhile, he has been sent to the Metropolitan Police Range, Teku for further investigation and action.
