Man kills girlfriend in 'cold-blood'

BIRATNAGAR: A man supposedly a lover of a young woman has killed her brutally with a machete near a canal at Sidraha in Grantham Rural Municipality of Morang district today.

Dipesh Bhattarai (30) murdered his girlfriend Shikha Ghimire (23) both hailing from Biratnagar-13, after taking her to a scooter ride in remote outskirts of the district.

Morang District Police Office said Dipesh Bhattarai inflicted deep wounds on the victim's face, neck, stomach and other parts while hacking her to death on the spot. Dipesh attacked Shika while resting at a quite cowshed near the canal in the area.

"With cuts and wounds all over the face, the victim was hardly identifiable," Police said following a preliminary investigation, "Dipesh had plotted an attack on her in suspicion that she was in love with some other guy."

After attacking his girlfriend, Bhattarai tried to run away, however, locals intercepted him before handing him over to the police. Bhattarai has sustained cut in his hand in the incident, police shared.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Manoj Kumar KC said, "Morang District Court has issued an arrest warrant against Bhattarai today."

He further said Bhattarai will be charged under new provisions of the Criminal Code Act, 2074 which came to effect from today.

It has been learned that the two were in a relationship for some time. Shikha was preparing to leave for Australia for higher education next week.
