Dhangadi, September 23

A man in Kailali committed suicide after poisoning his three-year-old daughter last night.

Ram Bahadur Kalel of Gauriganga Municipality-5 first administered poison to his daughter Anushka before he drank from the same bottle of pesticide and killed himself.

According to police, Anushka died at home itself, while her father breathed his last while being rushed to Dhangadi-based Seti Provincial Hospital.

“After Kalel’s wife committed suicide in April this year, his in-laws had filed a case against him, claiming that he was responsible for forcing his wife to kill herself,” said Deputy Superintendent of Police Dakshya Kumar Basnet.

Having been remanded to custody on the same charge on June 9 by Kailali District Court, he was later acquitted on August 7.

“We’re investigating what compulsion he had that he had to commit suicide even though his innocence had been established and the court had freed him,”  said the DSP.
