Man who swindled 1,000 women held

Police arrested a person from his house for cheating local women at Gaur Municipality in Rautahat yesterday.

Police said that Sishu Giri, 37, of the municipality had offered local women of Badaharwa and Brahmakumari VDCs, and Gaur Municipality various training classes on knitting with the promise of jobs upon completion of the training course, and disappeared after taking the money from them.

Police said Giri was in the custody of the District Police Office.

The case, filed by women in the DPO some days ago, said that the accused had taken Rs 1,350 from each woman claiming to be a staff of a ‘Woman Knitting Centre’ and promising a knitting machine to each woman. The victims had filed a case against Giri after he went out of contact as soon as he had taken the amount from them.

DSP Nabin Krishna Bhandari said that Giri was accused of swindling around one thousand women.

Giri was also found to have displayed fake documents to Sanjaya Singh of Badaharwa, DSP Bhandari informed. Bhandari added that further investigation into the case was under way.
