Manisha Koirala visits flood-hit areas of Rautahat

Rautahat, August 23

Bollywood actor Manisha Koirala, who is also the goodwill ambassador of the United Nations Fund for Population Activities, visited various flood-hit areas of Rautahat today.

After taking stock of areas badly affected by floods, Koirala distributed relief materials to flood victims on behalf of UNFPA. She distributed saris, inner wears, toothpaste, soap, oil, umbrellas, torches, among other things, to new mothers, single women and pregnant women today. Speaking at a press meet organised by UNFPA in district headquarters Gaur, Koirala said she was visiting the flood-hit areas to heal the fresh wounds of flood affected people. She urged the government to manage rehabilitation for displaced families at the earliest. “The government also needs to ensure the safety of all victims.  One-door policy for relief distribution has not been effective,” said a stakeholder.

Meanwhile, UNFPA Country Director Julia Valisci said they would move ahead with proper coordination with the government of Nepal. “Our organisation is ready to extend all possible support to relieve flood victims from their present woes,” announced Koirala.

Similarly, regional director Narendra Mishra expressed his commitment to provide necessary support to women, especially pregnant and marginalised women.
