Maoist district chief killed

Bhairahwa, June 29:

The Maoist chief of Rupandejhi was killed in a security operation this afternoon.

District secretary of the Maoists Rameshwor Yadav alias Ramesh was shot dead at Jungletole, Siddharthanagar municipality-2, in retaliatory firing, according to police inspector Mukunda Marasini of District Police Office, Rupandehi. Ramesh was resident of Saufarshatikar VDC, Rupandehi, police said.

A group of four Maoists had hurled a socked bomb at a police vehilce around 1.30 p.m., and the Maoist leader was killed in the firing that ensued.
