Maoist-parties’ pact unnatural: Ministers

Kathmandu, March 21:

Assistant minister for Education and Sports, Bhuvan Pathak, today flayed the alliance between the seven political parties and the Maoists as “unnatural, impractical, inhumane and anti-national.”

“The alliance boosts the morale of the Maoists resulting in more violence in the country,” he said while speaking at an interaction at Sambad Club Nepal.

“The alliance between the parties and the Maoists, whom the parties once declared as terrorists and issued red corner notices against the leaders, is not possible,” he said, adding that the parties are patching up with the Maoists after their so-called ‘decisive stirs’ failed to yield results. This action is very irresponsible on the part of the parties.

The alliance should understand that Maoists, weakened due to their internal conflict, are using the alliance to realise their ambition, he said.

Basanta Man Singh Adhikary, central member of Rastriya Janashakti Party, said the alliance between two political forces with different ideologies and destinations is very doubtful, and the political parties cannot move together in a Maoist-envisaged system.

“An outlet to the impasse should be sought through the constitution. And the government should also understand that there is no military solution,” he said.

The stakeholders should make the constitution as the only legitimate means to start the political process aimed at solving the crisis rather than going for the new one, he added.

Meanwhile, addressing the 53rd annual convention of the Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC) today, vice-chairman of the Council of Ministers, Dr Tulsi Giri, said the present political crisis was a result of the failure to take right decisions in the past.

Addressing the event, Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies, Buddhi Man Tamang, flayed the stir of the parties, saying they are only fighting for power.

He said the parties are responsible for the present unrest. “The parties disobeyed the King’s appeal for peace talks. They do not want peace.” He said that the 12-point parties-Maoist pact is “unnatural” as both have opposite principles and it is going to destroy the parties in the end.
