Maoist to list poll candidates by Feb 8
Kathmandu, January 27:
The central secretariat meeting of the CPN-Maoist today decided to collect name lists of candidates for the first-past-the-post and the proportional system of election for the
April 10 Constituent Assembly polls by February 8.
A Maoist source told this daily that the meeting held at the party office at Buddhanagar, chaired by party chairman Prachanda, directed all the party district committees to recommend at least three names for the first-past-the-post and five to seven names for the proportional representation system from the respective districts.
The party has instructed its district committees to give priority to the competent and qualified persons from the Madhesi, women, Dalit, Janajati and indigenous communities while recommending names for the proportional system of election.
The central secretariat meeting also reshuffled responsibilities of the office bearers of the 11
state councils and directed them to be fully dedicated to the Constituent Assembly polls.
At the end of the meeting, senior Maoist leader Dr Baburam Bhattarai said the meeting stressed the need to fully implement the 23-point agreements reached among the partners of the seven-party alliance on December 23. Dr Bhattarai said that the party would begin returning all the property seized during the conflict to the rightful owners in a day or two.
The Nepali Congress and other parties are accusing the Maoists of not returning the seized property to those rightful owners even after singing the peace accord. He said the six commissions, including the commission for restructuring the state, would also be formed soon. The alliance leaders were holding intensive discussions on terms of references for the formation of the commissions, he added.
