Maoists abduct teachers, UML cadres

KALIKOT: Members of the Unified CPN-Maoist-affiliated Young Communist League on Monday abducted teachers and cadres of the CPN-UML from Nanikot of Manma VDC in Kalikot district.

Those abducted are Chandra Bahadur Shahi, secretariat member, CPN-UML, Basanta Shahi, district chairman, Democratic National Youth Organisation, and ANNFSU district committee members Kushal Shahi, Khagendra Shahi and Mahesh Shahi. Teachers of Saraswati Secondary School Khushilal Chaudhari, Nuwadatta Subedi and Thakka Shahi have also been abducted.

Earlier, YCL had thrashed Chandra Bahadur Shahi, a local, in a dispute over shifting Sarbashakti Secondary School. According to Shahi's wife, hundreds of the Maoist cadres led by YCL district member Ain Bahadur Shahi had abducted him.

UML Kalikot secretary said, "UCPN-M cadres in the district are acting contrary to their central leadership's statement that they have no policy of harassing the cadres of rival parties."

According to DSP Rana Bahadur Majhi, a police team has been sent to the site. UCPN-M district leaders have promised a probe into the case.

6 hurt in clash

BARDIYA: Six persons were injured in Daulatpur VDC when two parties clashed over a dispute on land on Sunday night. The cadres of Maoists had seized and given land of a local to a resident of another village during the insurgency. The clash ensued when the rightful owner's kin were discussing with the other party to return their rightful land. Locals Ganesh Tharu, Ajaya Chaudhari, Man Bahadur Chaudhari, Bijeswori Chaudhari were injured in the clash. The injured are undergoing treatment in Bheri Zonal hospital Nepalgunj. Locals of Patabhar, Nayagaun and Daulatpur were using the land. — HNS
