Dhadingbeshi, January 24

The Rasuwa-Nuwakot-Dhading Coordination Committee of the CPN (Maoist) has announced a one-day Dhading bandh tomorrow. Issuing a press release today, the committee stated that the bandh was being organised in memory of Maoist cadres — including Kalpana Shrestha — who were killed by security forces in different parts of Dhading.

According to the release, Maoist cadres Sumitra Thapa, Rajesh and Sundar of the Ilaka-4 died in security forces action in Murchowk, Mulpani VDC, on January 17.

The release states that an innocent farmer was killed by security forces in Suk Bhanjyang Salyankot on January 19. The Maoists have called on the rights activists, journalists, intellectuals and members of the civil society to investigate the matter and provide adequate compensation to the affected family members.

Further, the Maoists have accused the forces of killing a civilian and called on the forces to take responsibility for the death of a Dalit boy, who died when a bomb exploded in Dandagaon on January 17. According to the release, three others, including three-year-old Bina Sarki and sixty-year-old Biva Rijal, were injured in the blast. They have also called on the media not to disseminate false information. Earlier reports had stated that Sarki died when a Maoist-left bomb exploded.

According to the statement, Sanu Gurung, 19, of Mulpani –1, was shot by security forces while he was heading home. The release states that district member Muna, Ilaka member Sumitra Thapa, party members Rajesh, Sundar and Ganesh of the west battalion have been killed in clashes with security forces since January 15.
