Maoists don't want statute: Nidhi
BIRGUNJ: Nepali Congress general secretary Bimalendra Nidhi on Tuesday said that the UCPN-Maoist is unwilling to draft the new constitution.
Speaking at a programme organised by Nepal Press Union Parsa chapter in Birgunj, Nidhi alleged that
the Maoists had promised to draft the new constitution based on federal democratic republican constitution in Constituent Assembly (CA) earlier. He said all the other parties are willing to draft the federal democratic republican constitution but the Maoists want to draft the constitution on people's republic.
Nidhi said that the integration of the PLAs needs to be finalised prior to drafting the constitution. He added that the constitution would create a conflict if it is drafted without finalising the integration. However, he was of the view that integrating the Maoist PLAs into the Nepal Army has not been mentioned in the Comprehensive Peace Accord or any other agreement. He said that the peace process and constitution writing are the two main agendas of the nation in recent times, though he claimed that the constitution will be drafted within five months.
