Maoists flayed for blast in school

Kathmandu, March 31:

The National Coalition for Children as Zones of Peace (National Coalition for CZOP), issuing a statement today, has condemned the Maoists for bombing the Dailekh-based Saraswati Secondary School, an SLC examination centre, today.

By bombing the school area, a non-military area, the Maoists have violated the Geneva Convention, Conventions on Human Rights and Child Rights and acted against their commitment to the 12-point parties-Maoist pact, the organisation said.

“These kinds of irresponsible activities on the part of warring parties affect the children and their future.” The organisation has appealed to the Maoists to uphold the fundamental right of the children to education, not to create unfavourable environment for examinees.

Calling on the Maoists not to repeat such activities, it has also appealed to the concerned authorities to take action against the guilty.

The National Coalition for CZOP is a coalition of 35 national and international organisations working for children’s welfare.
