Maoists held for beating UML cadres

Baitadi, March 21:

Three Maoist cadres were arrested at Amchaura village development committee yesterday on the charge of being involved in beating up CPN (UML)’s candidate under the PR election

system Puran Singh Dayal and others.

The police took Bir Bahadur BK, Ram Damai and Ganesh Ram Mijar into custody on the suspicion of their involvement in thrashing Dayal and others, chief district officer Jibachha Mishra said.

Ten UML activists, including Dayal, were injured in the attack that was carried out when they reached Amchaura for a door-to-door poll campaign.

Maoists and security personnel briefly clashed before the police opened dozens of blank fire.

Injured Dayal will be brought to the district headquarters till today evening for further treatment, Chief District Officer Mishra said.

Preparations are afoot to bring all the three to the district police office today evening, Deputy Superintendent of Police Ram Dutta Joshi said.

Meanwhile, in protest against the detention, Maoists have gheraoed different police posts in the district since this morning and continued sloganeering. Maoists gheraoed police posts at Melauli and Khochlek, seeking their release, Joshi said.
