Maoists let parties address House session
KATHMANDU: The Unified CPN-Maoist today allowed other parties to put forth their views in the parliament. The party, however, did not agree to let the House meeting enter into its scheduled business.
The party has been disrupting the House for more than a month, protesting against the President’s decision to reinstate Chief of Army Staff Rookmangud Katawal sacked by the Prachanda-led government.
Earlier, the UCPN-M, during the meeting of the work management advisory “committee of the House held this morning, had agreed to allow leaders of other parties to put forth their views in the House.
Addressing the House meeting, lawmakers of other parties criticised the UCPN-M for disrupting the House business and obstructing the democratic process.
Mohan Prasad Pandey of the NC accused the UCPN-M of trying to impose autocracy by disrupting the House proceedings and obstructing people’s works. Rabindra Adhikari of CPN-UML criticised the UCPN-M for disrupting the House business on lame excuses.
Madhesi Janaadhikar Forum chairman Upendra Yadav accused the PM of inducting Bijay Kumar Gachhadar in the cabinet though the latter had already been sacked by the party.
“The government’s move to appoint a person, who was expelled from the party, in the cabinet as MJF leader is unconstitutional,” he claimed.
Dr Prakash Chandra Lohani of the Rastriya Janashakti Party wondered whether the Maoists were really in favour of writing a new constitution on time.
Bhim Prasad Gautam of the UCPN-M said his party was positive on resuming the House business. “We are waiting for a consensus package from the coalition partners,” he added.
