Maoists middle path


Syangja: UCPN-Maoist vice-chairman Dr Baburam Bhattrai on Saturday said that his party was for the establishment of socialist democracy as capitalist democracy adopted and practiced by the Nepali Congress was “narrow and exclusive.” Speaking at an interaction programme in Syangja, Bhattrai expressed the need of accommodating positive aspects of both capitalism and socialism in the transitional economic system. He also stated that his party is committed to multi-party system and rule of law. Claiming that the incumbent government formed by the rejected and dejected in the CA election could not write the new statute, he said, “So long as the current government exists, no constitution can be written. So the new government has to be formed on the basis of political unity and consensus for timely constitution and logical conclusion of the peace process”.
