Sankhuwasabha, May 13:

Armed cadres of the CPN-Maoist raided the houses of two CPN-UML cadres in Ward No 1 of Jaljala VDC in Sankhuwasabha last night.

As man as 35 armed Maoist cadres gheraoed the houses belonging to UML cadres Surya Karki and Prithvi Karki and raided their houses, UML district secretary Dambar Bahadur Khadka said.

The UML said Maoist cadres led by Madhav Tamang, Prahalad Khadka and Gopal Adhikari had been threatening Surya and Prithvi of life for the past three days. The party said the two fled the village and moved to Chaurikharka following the raid.

The party said the Maoists have been resorting to intimidation after it protested recent beating up of two UML cadres by Maoists in Siddhakali VDC.

However, CPN-Maoist’s district leadership said the party cadres had been directed to observe restraint. It said the district leadership was unaware of the incident and it would probe into it.

“While the Maoists have been threatening to kill our cadres, the local administration is mum,” the UML source said and demanded strict action against the Maoists involved in all excesses in the recent days.
