Maoists threaten to break truce

Nepalgunj, August 20:

A local leader of the CPN-Maoist today threatened to end the ceasefire that is in place if the Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML kept on making a fuss about the murder of Sushil Gyawali in Motipur of Bardiya.

The Maoist Banke-Bardiya in charge Athak sought public apology from the two parties for hyping the case a and claimed that Dhan Bahadur Tharu was not a Maoist cadre. Addressing a press conference here today, Athak said, “The Nepali Congress and CPN-UML have politicised the case. We will break the ceasefire in Bardiya if they do not apologise in public,” he said.

Dhan Bahadur was expelled from the party two years ago, he added.

Locals however, said many complaints were registered against Dhan Bahadur and the Maoists did not take action against him. Athak also blamed the two parties of troubling thousands of travellers by organising chakkajam for two days. Athak also said the party would not be taking responsibility for an ex-cadre’s actions.

Meanwhile, Athak, in the press statement claimed some criminals including Dhan Bahadur killed Gyawali for personal reason.

Athak flayed the report on Gyawali’s murder and said the reports were baseless.
