Maoists to push for PR system: Gajurel

Kathmandu, October 7:

Maoist leader CP Gajurel today said his party would raise the issue of proportional representation system in the constituent assembly in the upcoming special session of the legislature-parliament.

“We are not going to abandon the issue of proportional representation at any cost. We will hold extensive discussion on the matter,” he said while addressing a programme at the Reporters’ Club Nepal.

He stressed on the need to announce republican set-up before the election to the constituent assembly is held.

He also charged the CPN-UML’s double standards for the delay in elections.

He said his party would not search for an alternative to Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala.

Nepali Congress central leader Sujata Koirala stressed that there was no alternative to Koirala. “I was surprised to hear demand of Koirala’s resignation. Nobody except Koirala has the ability to find a way out of this crisis,” she said.

She claimed that the demand of Koirala’s resignation is useless and only a game to invite unrest in the country.
