Maoists waged war to achieve peace: Prachanda

Maoist chairman Prachanda claimed today his party fought the 12-year war to achieve peace. Prachanda said this while addressing a peace conference organised by the International Buddhist Federation on the eve of 2552nd Buddha Jayanti.
The Maoist chairman said he is committed to bringing the peace process to a logical conclusion. He said Lumbini was in his mind when his party signed the comprehensive peace treaty. Prachanda said history should not be wronged by misinterpreting the war. He also stressed the need to expedite efforts for economic development of the country.
CPN-UML general secretary Jhala Nath Khanal called upon the Maoists to shun violence and attacks.
Coordinator of the Madhesi Janadhikar Forum Upendra Yadav laid emphasis on the need to make a conducive environment where everyone can live in peace.
Central member of the Nepali Congress Deep Kumar Upadhyaya stressed the need to revive peace, while senior leader of the Tarai Madhes Democratic Party Sarbendra Nath Shukla said the peace process is moving in the right direction.
