Marijuana, opium cultivated in Makawanpur destroyed
HETAUNDA: Police destroyed marijuana and opium plants cultivated by locals in the western and northern belt of Makawanpur district.
According to the District Police Office, Makawanpur, marijuana was cultivated in 1,500 bigha and opium in 350 bigha land in seven VDCs —Namtar, Kankada, Sarikhet Palase, Bharta, Dandakharka, Agara and Raskirang -- of the district.
Deputy Superintendent of Police, Shishu Sharma, said 11 persons have been prosecuted for their involvement in illegal cultivation of contraband. They face charges under the Narcotics Prohibition Act.
