Martin off to UN headquarters

KATHMANDU:

Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General, Ian Martin, left for New York on Sunday to update the Security Council (SC) on Nepal’s peace and electoral processes.

The SC will discuss the Secretary-General’s report on Nepal. The United Nations Mission in Nepal (UNMIN) will complete its one-year mandate in January. The SC may also hold discussions on extending UNMIN’s mandate. The UNMIN has completed verification at four of the seven Maoist army divisions.
