Martin visits far-west

Dhangadhi, August 22:

Special envoy of United Nations general secretary Ban Ki Moon and chief of the United Nations Mission in Nepal Ian Martin started a visit of the far-western region from today. He held discussions with officials on the law and order situation, preparation for the constituent assembly elections and the second phase of verification of PLA personnel in Kailali.

Martin visited the Kailali district administration office and met CDO Chhetra Bahadur Bhandari. He also held discussions with acting DIGs of the Armed Police Force and civilian police Shailendra Shrestha and Ganesh Rai on law and order situation.

UNMIN recently opened its far-western regional office in Dhangadhi. CDO Bhandari said the meeting focused on law and order situation, elections and

the second phase of PLA verification. Martin inquired about the problems of VDC secretaries and situation in villages. VDC secretaries complained that absence of elected representatives has made their job difficult.
