Minister faces contempt of court

KATHMANDU: A contempt of court case has been filed against Education Minister Ramchandra Kushwaha at the Supreme Court today. Manoj Kumar Das, a Dalit student seeking scholarship, filed the case against Kushwaha and concerned officials of the Ministry of Education for not providing him scholarship even after the apex court directives.

On October 16, the apex court had directed the ministry not to hinder him from getting scholarship from the Madhesi Dalit quota and not to execute the ministry's August 2 decision to provide the same to Surendra Shaha Sonar.

Besides the minister, the petitioner also sought maximum punishment against Secretary Ram Sworup Sinha, Under Secretary Narayan Kumar Shrestha and other officials Devi Prasad Upadhyaya and Laxmi Khadka of the ministry as per the Supreme Court Act 1991.
